Note From The Founder

I have been thinking about what to do with my books lately. I have a large book case full of books from Physics to Jewelry Making, from Classics to Autobiographical. After having two little rugrats (kids), my reading time has diminished GREATLY!! I no longer have the time or energy to sit down and read a book without falling right to sleep! I think it took me 2 months to read what used to take me less than a week!!So I started thinking what I could do with all those books. I didn't want to give them to the library (some of the books were actually from some of the drives the libraries have). I didn't want to give them to the book sellers on the street (why should someone have to pay for some brain food!!!)...I was getting a bit frustrated on thinking where these books could do some good...

Today, on my way to work, I passed by some furniture people were throwing out. Next to the stuff was a box of what looked like science magazines on cells and molecular studies. Now I don't know much about that stuff. I think I remembered something about the stuff I did in biology in high school...but it looked like something I could read on the train without getting sooo deep into it I would miss my stop (that has happened---several times). So off it went with me to the subway. When I finally got a seat on the train (I had been reading while standing up), I noticed the lady next to me picked up the newspaper that was in the seat I was going to sit in. She began to read it. When her stop came up, she placed the magazine in her seat and left.Suddenly an idea popped right into my head...I thought to myself "Self...wouldn't it be nice to give someone something to read on these boring train rides? Wouldn't it be nice to actually give someone a book they would enjoy that they can take with them and perhaps learn something they didn't know?"

Have A Read was then born. As soon as I got out of the subway station, I gave my sister a call at her job and ran it by her. Of course she thought I was nuts, but she has always thought that, so it was okay. She gave me some good ideas for the name of what I wanted to do and then she got off the phone and got back to work.So now, I will become the masked avenger of those who have nothing to read and would like to pick up something intriguing...okay maybe no mask, but I like the idea of giving people a chance to expand instead of trying not to look at the person in front of you on the subway.... :-)

Just look for a book with a note that states "Take Me And Have A Read"If you would like to donate books, just shoot me an email at have_a_read@yahoo.com(there are some underscores in there)and keep on reading!!!
